Hirer Rules
Effective 1 April 2026
Camplify requires that all hirers follow the Hirer Rules. The Owner Rules and Hirer Rules set the ground rules for the Camplify Community and help provide a good experience for both owners and hirers. Following the rules will assist you to have a safe and enjoyable holiday.
The rules are broken down into
- Pre-hire obligations;
- Obligations during hire; and
- Post hire obligations.
It is important that you read and understand the rules. Failure to comply with the rules can lead to you being fully responsible for damage and your account being suspended or terminated.
Pre-hire Rules
1. Bookings
When selecting an RV it is important that you check the owner’s listing details carefully to ensure that the RV is suitable for your trip and that you can comply with the owner’s hire rules. This is particularly important if the RV is an instant booking.
There are types of bookings on Camplify:
- BYO bookings – where the RV owner has “brought their own” comprehensive insurance to cover the RV when it is on hire. BYO owners may require that the hirer pay a bond (see Pre-hire Rule 4 for more information on bonds);
- Flex bookings – where the RV owner has chosen to use the on-hire insurance provided by Camplify’s insurance partners. No bond is required for Flex Bookings, however the hirer will be required to pay for damage on-hire up to their chosen accident excess reduction.
If you are hiring a driveable vehicle and wish to fit a child restraint in the RV, you must check that the RV has appropriate anchor points and/or seat belts to fit the child restraint.
The owner’s listing will include whether the owner has security measures such as a driver behaviour monitoring or GPS tracking or a dashcam fitted to their RV. Unless you agree otherwise with the Owner, by booking an RV with a GPS or dashcam mentioned in the owner’s listing you are providing your consent for the owner to use the GPS or dashcam during your hire. An Owner may have different cancellation policies for different dates. The listing cancellation policy is indicative only. The cancellation policy applicable to a booking will be displayed through the booking process once dates are requested.
Except in cases of instant booking, you may ask any questions you have about the appropriateness of your RV for the planned trip in your booking request. Owners should answer any questions you have before accepting your booking request. An owner may also ask you questions about yourself and your planned trip. You may cancel your booking request at any time prior to the Owner accepting it. Once the booking request is approved by the owner your booking is complete and payment becomes due. If payment is not made within 72 hours your booking will be cancelled.
In the case of an RV available for instant booking, you will have 25 minutes to settle the payment before the booking is cancelled.
When making a booking you need to agree pick-up and drop off times with the owner.
2. Cancellations
The cancellation policy the RV owner has selected will be displayed during the booking process and will be in the booking’s details in the hirer’s account. This is the policy that will apply if you decide to cancel the booking for any reason. Advising the owner verbally or in a message to either the owner or to Camplify, does not cancel the booking on the Camplify platform. A booking is not cancelled until you click the cancel button on your profile page relating to that booking. If you haven’t cancelled on the platform, Camplify will assume the booking is going ahead and will release your payment to the RV owner. Cancellation charges will be calculated based on the date that the booking is cancelled on the Camplify platform, not the date of any earlier verbal or email communication.
In exceptional circumstances an owner may cancel your booking. If this happens you will be provided with a full credit and Camplify will provide you with reasonable assistance to rebook another RV for your trip. If you are unable to rebook a refund will be provided.
See the Camplify Cancellation Policy for more details.
3. Authorised drivers
Only the hirer or an authorised driver may operate the RV. The Hirer will be responsible if you allow anyone who is not authorised to drive the RV. Unauthorised drivers may not be covered by insurance, in which case the hirer will be fully responsible for any damage caused by an unauthorised driver.
For Flex bookings all drivers must meet the insurance policy eligibility criteria.
You may list any additional driver(s) when making your booking. All drivers must meet the age requirements for the listing and have a current driver’s licence in the correct class for the RV that is not subject to any restriction or condition.
Provisional licence holders must not drive an RV. For Flex Bookings drivers must also meet the insurance requirements below.
You and any authorised drivers must provide a current unrestricted licence to the owner so that your licence details can be added when completing the Pre-Hire Checklist on handover. Camplify or the Owner may also require that a copy of your and any authorised drivers licence is provided for insurance purposes prior to handover. If you hold a foreign licence, (except if issued by an EU country) in a language other than English, it must be accompanied by an accredited English translation or you may provide an International Driving Permit.
The Hirer and any authorised driver must be at least 21 years of age and no older than 80. Driver age requirements will be shown in the RV listing. Hirers should check with BYO Owners whether any young driver excess applies. For Flex bookings Camplify’s insurer permits drivers between 21 to 24 to hire via the Camplify platform for vehicles up to £30,000 value. A young driver excess of £3,500 applies.
For BYO bookings check the listing and with the owner for age restrictions.
If you do not meet the age requirements, or insurance eligibility criteria for Flex bookings, your booking will be cancelled, and the usual cancellation charges will apply.
4. Handover process
You must meet the owner at the agreed location and time to handover the RV. It is rude to be late and owners are not required to wait for you if you are. Communicate any delay to the owner to see what can be arranged. All authorised drivers must attend the handover in person and provide the owner with a copy of their driver’s licence.
At handover you must:
- undergo an induction by the RV owner regarding the safe use, operation and handling of the RV. This is the opportunity to ask questions and make sure you know what to do;
- complete the Pre-Hire Checklist via the Camplify App with the RV Owner;
- inspect the RV and compare any pre-existing damage against the Pre-Hire Checklist;
- using a smartphone to take (date stamped) photographs of all sides of the exterior of the RV and retain such photographs;
- make sure you know the height of the RV. You are fully responsible for overhead damage caused by driving the RV under an obstacle marked with a lower clearance than the height of the RV or otherwise recklessly colliding with an overhead obstacle;
If you identify any damage that is not recorded on the Pre-Hire Checklist, you must report it by sending an email support@camplify.co.uk with evidence of the pre-existing damage no later than 12 hours after collecting the RV.
5. Insurance
Owners must have comprehensive insurance covering their RV while on hire. An owner will either arrange their own insurance (BYO Owner) or take out daily hire insurance with Camplify’s insurance partners (Flex Owner). Your booking will indicate whether it is a BYO or Flex booking.
For Flex Owners of a driveable RV (motorhome, campervan, vehicles with rooftop tent) the hire insurance is provided by Allianz. Hirers and authorised drivers with a UK licence are required to undergo the UK DVLA driving licence verification. All drivers must meet the following requirements to be eligible for Allianz cover whilst on hire:
- Hold an UK, EU, EEA, Australian or New Zealand drivers licence.
- Be aged between 21 and 80 years of age and have held a drivers licence for a minimum of 2 years.
- Have no driving bans.
- Have no major driving offence conviction in the last 5 years, for codes AC (accident offences), BA (disqualified driver), CD (careless driving), DD ( Reckless/ Dangerous Driving), DR (drink offences), IN (insurance offences), LC30-50 (Licence offences, MS40-90 (Miscellaneous offences), UT (unauthorised taking of a vehicle).
- Drivers 25 and older must have no more than 6 penalty points in the past 5 years.
- Hirers/Drivers aged 21 to 24 must have no more than 3 penalty points in the past 5 years to be acceptable.
- Accident history:
- 25 to 80 year olds – no more than two accidents in the past three years.
- Hirers & drivers aged 21 to 24 must have had no more than one accident in the past three years to be acceptable.
You, or the owner must advise Camplify if your hire is a trip outside of the UK so that a green card can be obtained. Unnotified trips may not be covered by Allianz.
Camplify strongly recommends that you take out the highest level of travel insurance available to you.
6. Accident Excess Reduction – Flex Bookings only
For incidents occurring on Flex Bookings, Hirers are required to pay the accident excess applicable under the Allianz on-hire policy. A standard accident excess reduction applies to all Flex bookings, reducing the excess to £2,000. Hirers can choose silver or gold accident excess reduction to further reduce the excess payable.

Always be aware of, and drive to, the conditions. Check for road and weather alerts in the area where you are traveling, do not drive into any area where an alert has been issued. Make sure that the RV is protected from the wind and weather while parked. Annexes and awnings may need to be taken down in high wind or adjusted so that rainwater runs off and doesn’t pool causing damage.
RV movements may be restricted due to adverse road conditions and weather events. For your own safety and the protection of the RV, you may need to adapt your planned itinerary to avoid travelling in these areas. Camplify is not responsible for any itinerary changes or delays caused by road closures or weather events. We strongly suggest that you obtain appropriate travel insurance for cover.

If your original route changes, always let the owner know. Many RVs listed on Camplify are fitted with GPS tracking devices for safety and quality assurance purposes. Traveling off road or on unsealed roads or taking the RV to a location not agreed to by the owner is a breach of the hire agreement and could result in your being fully liable for any resulting damage.
If you wish to extend the hire period whilst on hire, an extension can be requested via the Camplify platform. Any extension is subject to the availability of the RV and owner approval. For Flex Bookings only the hire dates recorded in the booking are covered by our insurance partner.

The hirer may request a second quote if the owner is managing the repair themselves.
The BYO owner and hirer are encouraged to reach mutual agreement on the bond claim. Where Camplify holds the bond, the owner and hirer must tell Camplify what they have agreed regarding the bond so that Camplify can release the bond as agreed. If they cannot agree they may refer the bond dispute to Camplify in accordance with the Dispute Resolution Policy.
